Ichthyosis encompasses a broad range of skin disorders characterized by dry, scaly skin. There are more than 30 types, classified by their symptoms, genetic causes, and inheritance patterns. These conditions can be isolated, affecting only the skin, or syndromic, where symptoms extend beyond the skin to other organs.

  • Ichthyosis follicularis with alopecia and photophobia syndrome
  • Conradi-Hunermann-Happle syndrome
  • Netherton syndrome
  • Ichthyosis-hypotrichosis syndrome
  • Trichothiodystrophy
  • Sjögren-Larsson syndrome
  • Refsum's disease
  • Mental retardation, enteropathy, deafness, neuropathy, ichthyosis, keratoderma syndrome
  • Arthrogryposis, renal dysfunction, cholestasis syndrome
  • Keratitis-ichthyosis-deafness syndrome
  • Neutral lipid storage disease with ichthyosis
  • Ichthyosis prematurity syndrome
  • Neu–Laxova syndrome

Additionally, there's a non-genetic form known as ichthyosis acquisita, which can occur in association with other conditions and is not inherited​
