The First Duties of a Restored Democracy
Cleaning Up the Mess. Restoring Justice. Defending the Constitution.
A democratic government's first responsibility is to repair the damage, restore the rule of law, rebuild public trust, and ensure no administration can ever again place itself above the Constitution.
Our immediate priorities must be:
End the war with Iran. Pursue an immediate diplomatic resolution, prevent further escalation, and restore peace through international cooperation.
Stand firmly with Ukraine. Defend Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and right to a just and lasting peace.
Restore Medicare and SNAP protections. Reverse harmful cuts, restore essential benefits, and ensure that vulnerable Americans have access to healthcare and food assistance.
Rebuild American science and research. Restore full staffing and funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), offer displaced scientists stable opportunities to return, and protect scientific independence from political interference.
Correct unlawful deportations. Establish a transparent process to identify and bring back people unlawfully deported without criminal convictions or proper due process, and provide appropriate legal remedies.
Make housing affordable again. Expand affordable housing, confront corporate rental manipulation, investigate price-fixing, and protect tenants from predatory practices.
Release the Epstein files and deliver justice. Make all legally releasable records public while protecting victims. Investigate credible evidence of criminal wrongdoing and prosecute those responsible, regardless of wealth, political affiliation, or influence.
Demand accountability at every level of government. Conduct independent investigations into credible allegations of corruption, abuse of power, and constitutional violations involving Republican officials, ICE, the Supreme Court, and any other public institution or official. No political party, agency, or judge must be exempt from lawful scrutiny.
Abolish the Electoral College: Replace the Electoral College with a national popular vote for president through a constitutional amendment. Ensure that every American's vote carries equal weight, regardless of which state they live in. The candidate who receives the most votes nationwide should win the presidency.
One Person, One Vote.
Reverse Reagan-era tax cuts for the wealthy and restore tax fairness. Reverse the legacy of tax policies that disproportionately favor the richest Americans and large corporations. Restore progressive taxation, close loopholes that benefit the ultra-wealthy, and ensure that billionaires and corporations pay their fair share. Use the additional revenue to strengthen healthcare, education, affordable housing, scientific research, and essential public services. A fair democracy requires a fair tax system—not one that rewards extreme wealth while burdening working families.
A Final Declaration: Never Again Above the Constitution
Let this be an unbreakable principle of American democracy:
No president, no political party, no government agency, no member of Congress, and no Supreme Court justice stands above the Constitution.
No administration may violate constitutional rights without accountability. No official may abuse public power without facing independent investigation and, where warranted, lawful consequences.
Justice must never depend on political loyalty, wealth, office, or influence.
The Constitution is not a suggestion. The rule of law is not optional. Democracy is not the property of any political party.
And let our final commitment be unmistakable:
Never again shall any political party or administration be permitted to violate the Constitution with impunity.
No one above the law. No exceptions. No impunity.
